The five movements of Preludes were written between February and May of 2014. The set was inspired by the Five Preludes of Heitor Villa-Lobos, as well as Richard Rodney Bennett's Impromptus, both of which consist of five movements. Similarly, the relationships of the movements and their relative moods and durations take cues from both the Villa-Lobos and the Bennett. In the end, my set of five Preludes represents my ongoing exploration of the solo classical guitar--the pieces are most interested in the medium's seductive personality, natural beauty, and inherent emotion.
