Fantasies and Velocities (2008)

The opening of Fantasies and Velocities is comprised of a rising three-note melodic figure that expands in a rich harmonic landscape. This material is expressive and hopeful. Shortly after, a new sonic world is introduced when the two pianos become intertwined in a fast rhythmic section. Throughout the piece, the music shifts between these two opposite types of material, exploring their contrast in mood and color.
Fantasies and Velocities, for two pianos, was premiered March 9, 2008 at the USC Thornton School of Music by Gary Shields and Jordan Nelson.
