Sun Songs (2008) Suns Songs is a set of three pieces for solo classical guitar. The titles of the three pieces are inspired by poems from Walt Whitman's 'Leaves of Grass'. Each movement name evokes a different perspective (or time of day), yet the same focus: the sky.
The first movement, Horizon Rises, contrasts expanding slow passage with quick, pulse-driven music. After The Dazzle Of Day Is Done, the second piece, is serene, yet shrouded and ominous. In the third movement, The Vapor As It Flew In Fleeces Tinged With Violet, long bell-tone phrases are joined by a fleeting underpinning that, together, drive the piece's steady pulse. Sun Songs was written for and in collaboration with guitarist Jack Cimo. Performance History -
