Songbook for piano (2018- ) is a set of pieces inspired by the Great American Songbook. The project has been developed in collaboration with pianist Thomas Kotcheff and videographer Louis Ng.
Some of the pieces in Songbook quote the referenced tune audibly, while others embed the original in a less overt way. I am continually fascinated by how one can riff off of ear-worm melodies and chord progressions while finding new opportunities for expression, composition, and communication.
