The next installment of the Songbook for piano series is I Wish I Could Shimmy Like My Sister Kate, based upon the original song by Armand J. Piron. Once again, Thomas Kotcheff delivers an awesome rendition, complete with his usual combination of showmanship and musicality. The video is part of the ongoing collaboration with Thomas and Louis Ng. For our next video in the 'Songbook...' project, Paper Moon is based upon Harold Arlen's original song. My version superimposes bits of the tune on top of rising harmonic series (or approximations via the piano), weaving in and out of grooving, machine-like sections. Thomas Kotcheff brings his A-game, once again, and Louis Ng has captured the music in the following black-and-white clip: Here's a behind-the-scenes look at the video shoot for I Get A Kick Out Of You, based on the original song by Cole Porter. Most of our videos for the Songbook project have been the product of multiple takes with a complex map of edits completed seamlessly by the intrepid Louis Ng. Not this one, though-- Thomas delivered his rendition of I Get A Kick Out Of You in three full single-takes. This is take 3: I Get A Kick Out Of You is notated as a set of large chords given to the performer essentially as a chart. The performer then improvises based upon the notes provided -- therefore, in even more ways than usual, the video for I Get A Kick Out Of You represents a collaboration with pianist Thomas Kotcheff and videographer Louis Ng. I Get A Kick Out Of You is based on Cole Porter's original song. We're back with a new video in the Songbook project: Oh What A Beautiful Mornin', based on the original by Richard Rodgers from the musical 'Oklahoma!', once again uniting the collaborative forces of pianist Thomas Kotcheff and videographer Louis Ng. The fifth video in the collaboration with Thomas Kotcheff and Louis Ng is here: Begin the Beguine, based upon Cole Porter's original. Here is a take on Harold Arlen's classic song 'Over the Rainbow' played by Thomas Kotcheff. Video by Louis Ng. Next in our series of collaborations - 'Tea for Two', based on Vincent Youman's original. Over the next couple of months, there will be a set of videos premiering from the 'Songbook' collection, all made in collaboration with pianist Thomas Kotcheff and videographer Louis Ng. The first video to share is for 'White Christmas', based on the original by Irving Berlin. |
